"My paintings combine elements from art history and pop culture in a conceptualized fashion. I reconstruct compositions from masters of the Renaissance and apply egg tempera and gold leaf techniques utilized by Byzantine painters. The pop culture imagery ranges from black cats and lizards to Jim Morrison and Jesus. I work with the versatility of egg tempera and gold leaf to establish a “cosmic” reinvention of these elements. Overall, I want to encourage people to gain a new interest in art history through my paintings, which merge traditional mediums and techniques with unconventional imagery to achieve unique, challenging results."
